Access
The Theatre Royal Stratford East is committed to every section of its local community, developing relationships with community groups and voluntary sector organisations. The Theatre also champions access for groups of disabled people and caters for their needs.
The theatre now has more spacious foyers and a wheelchair accessible box office, there are 5 wheelchair spaces in the theatre itself, lifts to the upper level, wheelchair accessible toilets.
Theatre Royal is proud to be part of SEE A VOICE, a three year project to develop and broaden the programme of arts and cultural events that are available to deaf, deafened, hard of hearing, blind and partially sighted audiences through captioned and audio described performances.
What is Captioning? Captioning is similar to television subtitling and gives deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people access to live performances. The actors’ words appear on a display unit at the same
time as they are spoken or sung.
What is Audio Description? Audio description in theatre is a live verbal
commentary on the visual elements of a production as it unfolds.
